Happy New Year

Happy New Year from the team at CF Reese.
We hope you’ve had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday even though the weather was generally terrible for this time of the year.
The good news is for those that followed the tips for holiday readying your home in our December e-letter, you wouldn’t have had any problems with spouting overflowing during those crazy summer deluges of rain.
In this e-letter we thought we would focus on water conservation. If you, like many people, have a water meter installed at your home or business, following these basic concepts could save you thousands of dollars in wasted water.
We look forward to being at your service in what we are sure will be an exciting, prosperous year ahead.

In today’s world water is becoming one of the most precious commodities we have. We have been very fortunate in New Zealand to have access to clean, wholesome, potable drinking water unlike many countries overseas; but as the population grows and our demand for greater performance of our water systems increases, pressure is coming upon local infrastructure. As a result many more people are now paying for their water.
Simply repairing a leaking tap, could save you money and help do your part to reduce wastage of this precious commodity, H2O. A dripping tap or shower rose can waste up to 90 litres per week. If this is hot water, not only is this wasting water, it is costing you energy as well.
This offer only applies to conventional taps and does not include the replacement of any new tapware, ceramic cartridges, head-works or shower mixer components.

Residential home owner gets $2,000 water bill!
|
We thought we would share this valuable example of a customer who recently contacted us after receiving water bill from their local authority in excess of $2,000.
This particular customer lives in the country and is on a trickle feed water supply, directly into a water tank. This water tank had a submerged ballcock which was running continuously into the tank causing it to overflow via the overflow pipe out of view.
It wasn’t until their water bill leapt from a few hundred dollars per year to in excess of $2,000 that they contacted us. On close investigation we found the ballcock had failed and this water was simply running down the drain. “Unfortunately local authorities don’t credit water costs and the cost of the water is not claimable on all insurance.”
After repairing the ballcock in the tank and advising the customer to check the overflow point and water meter periodically, we rectified the problem for just over a hundred dollars. The same problem could occur with a header tank in the ceiling or even with a toilet cistern overflowing.
It is a good idea to locate your water meter yourself and take periodic readings to ensure that the water consumption does not increase rapidly over a short period of time. You can take a reading at a pre-set time such as the first Saturday of the month; record the usage on the calendar to check for any spikes. In the event you observe your meter continually spinning when you know that no water is being consumed on the property, it is likely that you have a leak.
An example of water costs in our area - The Waikato District Council currently charges $1.75 per cubic metre and for commercial properties within Hamilton City boundary the charge is $1.37 per cubic metre. (1 cubic metre of water = 1,000 litres)
If you find your water meter still spinning and you know no water is being consumed, give us a call or click here to log a job and we will come out and find the leak and save you money.

Smart plumbing saves customer $5,000 per year!
|
We were recently contacted by a commercial building owner who had a water bill which spiked to in excess of $5,000 from the local authority when half of his building was unoccupied.
After investigation we found that the building had two urinals in the men’s toilet blocks that were effectively running continuously, one due to failure of a control valve and the other due to no sensor indicating that when the urinal wasn’t being used, it didn’t need to flush. By simply upgrading the cistern with an automatic flushing sensor that flushes the urinal once per day when not used and only after it is used, (activated by walking up to it), for a cost of under $1,200, water consumption immediately dropped back to the expected volume.
In the case of a small urinal or urinette that currently fills a cistern by installing a push button manual control for only $650 can also save significant money in a smaller, lower occupancy building.
"If you are a commercial building owner or tenant that has urinals, give us a call today to come and inspect these and provide you with a cost effective solution to save you money."

New project profile
|
We are very pleased to announce that we have recently commenced the plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying work on the Stage 3 of the Cascades Retirement Resort situated on the corner of Fow and Palmerston Streets, Hamilton.
This complex, which is being constructed by Tauranga based owner/developer, Sanderson Group, will be linked to the existing Cascades rest home apartment complex and will contain luxury apartments and rest home hospital rooms constructed to a very up-market standard.
This project has been undertaken on a design/build basis with C F Reese being involved in both the consultation and design for all the plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying services.
Using this design/build philosophy has enabled us to deliver a high quality product to suit our client’s needs at the most cost effective price.
After researching our client's requirements and surveying the property, we draw upon our chain of suppliers to assist in specifying the best products to suit the project. We find this new approach leads to a stronger client / plumber relationship and mitigates costly variations and unforeseen costs because we have been involved in the project design from the beginning.
If you or anyone you know is considering building a new home or commercial building we would be interested in discussing design efficiencies, please feel free to contact us at our offices and ask for Aaron.

A little bit funny

Making fun of Plumbing
A woman calls in a plumber when her washing machine breaks down. The plumber arrives, studies the machine, then produces a hammer and gives it a hefty whack. The washing machine starts working again and the plumber presents a bill for $200. ‘Two hundred dollars?’ says the woman. ‘All you did was hit it with the hammer.’ So the plumber gives her an itemised bill: ‘Hitting washing machine with a hammer – $5. Knowing where to hit it – $195.’
